General information about L-carnitine
L-carnitine is made up of two amino acid compounds, methionine and lysine. For the most part, amino acids are obtained through food. The main source of carnitine is meat. Poultry, fish and dairy products also contain high levels of carnitine. L-carnitine only occurs in very small quantities in foods of plant origin. That's why vegetarians and vegans sometimes suffer from L-carnitine deficiency. Small quantities can only be found in avocados and soybeans.
We recommend using L-carnitine as support for a figure training regime and in combination with weight training and endurance sports. Taking L-carnitine during exercise improves your energy supply. Carnitine ensures the processing of dietary fat for additional performance during exercise.
L-carnitine is synthesised in the liver and the kidneys. In the body, L-carnitine can primarily be stored in the brain and heart, but also in the muscles. When selecting a quality carnitine product, make sure that premium-quality Carnipure® has been used as the raw material. This is highly dosed and achieves the best efficacy. Premium Carnipure® can be distinguished by its excellent bioavailability, meaning it can be absorbed by the body quickly. In terms of bioavailability and biocompatibility in particular, Carnipure® is far superior to other products, like carnitine tartrate.

L-carnitine is ideal for body shaping
L-carnitine is ideal for use as part of a body shaping regime. The foundation of a figure training regime is of course the diet. Weight loss is determined by a negative energy balance with a calorie deficit.
L-carnitine can support you in your training, but successful weight loss is closely linked to a coordinated diet and performance in training. That's why when taking L-carnitine we recommend additional strength or endurance training.
The effects of L-carnitine
Studies show: Carnitine supports strength and endurance training
In a 24-week study, participants were split into two different groups. One group consumed 80 g of high-glycemic carbohydrates on an empty stomach as their first meal of the day in addition to 2 g of L-carnitine a day.
The control group ate only the carbohydrates and paid no attention to their carnitine intake. Performance tests were then carried out on a stationary bike. The result: The L-carnitine group consumed 55% less muscle glycogen during the exercise.
The athletes in the experimental group were also able to delay the formation of lactate and displayed a higher value of creatine phosphate - the elementary building block of the energy fuel ATP. Another advantage: Premature fatigue was reduced by 25% through L-carnitine intake and blood and oxygen circulation was also improved within the muscles.
L-carnitine can also help with muscle building. Results show that the number of testosterone receptors were increased in the body through the carnitine intake - this has a positive effect on muscle building, muscle growth and general gains in strength.
L-carnitine supports figure training
In the body, L-carnitine is mainly responsible for energy production in the mitochondria, the cellular power plants. L-carnitine transports dietary fats to the mitochondria, where energy for the body is obtained from the compounds. This additional energy is made available during times of physical strain.
L-carnitine also supports the regeneration and building processes of the muscles. And it also plays a role in endurance and athletic performance. Studies by the Nottingham Media School came to this conclusion.
Who should use L-carnitine?
L-carnitine is suitable for anyone who wants to actively support their body shaping and physical training. When taken before a workout, L-carnitine takes care of thermoregulation within the body.
This can lead to increased perspiration during sporting activities, intensifying the training experience.
The correct intake of L-carnitine
For best results as part of a figure training regime, carnitine should be taken on an empty stomach about 30 - 60 minutes before a workout.
On training-free days you can take L-carnitine first thing in the morning, when the body is better able to absorb and directly profit from nutrients.
Possible side effects of L-carnitine
Generally speaking, taking L-carnitine is not associated with any risks. If you suffer from an acute disease and have doubts about taking L-carnitine, we recommend consulting your treating physician.
As with all dietary supplements it is important to ensure that you always take plenty of fluids. We recommend at least 2 - 3 litres of water a day when taking carnitine and exercising on a regular basis.
Buying L-carnitine online – what you need to look out for
There is a large market for L-carnitine with a wide range of products. So what should you look out for when buying? A crucial factor is the raw material used for the carnitine. The highest quality and most effective raw material is certified Carnipure® from Switzerland.
Since L-carnitine products normally come in the form of capsules, you should also be mindful of the nature of the capsule material when buying. High quality products can be distinguished by the use of plant-based capsule material in the form of cellulose. Inferior products, on the other hand, often use gelatine capsules made from pork.
It is also important to ensure that the capsules are free of unnecessary additives like artificial colours or preservatives.
foodspring uses only high-quality Carnipure™ for the production of L-carnitine. The vegan capsule shells made of cellulose fibres are also lactose and gluten-free and contain no unnecessary additives like dyes or preservatives.
