Protein Bread Recall

We are recalling all batches of VEGAN PROTEIN BREAD with a best before date between February 2020 and September 2021, and PROTEIN BREAD with a best before date between December 2020 and September 2021.

This is due to the presence of ethylene oxide in sesame seeds used by a supplier manufacturing our PROTEIN BREAD (230g) and VEGAN PROTEIN BREAD (230g).

Sesame seeds account for 3% of both dry baking mixes. Ethylene oxide is not permitted for use in foods in the EU, which is why we are issuing this recall. This recall only affects the following batches:

We ask consumers not to consume the impacted products. Instead, please return them at the point of sale. We are offering a full refund to all affected consumers.

We ask that consumers who have product that corresponds with the information we’ve shared not to consume it. Instead, they should contact customer service in order to initiate the return process via this Link for reimbursement. Please always include the order number in the communication, otherwise the reimbursement will not be possible.

Can consumers ask the shop they bought their product from for a refund? Will foodspring then reimburse the retailer?

For reimbursement the product must be returned to the point of sales where bought. The respective retailer will then reimburse the consumer. In case you bought the product at the foodspring webshop please contact customer service via this Link.

Do you know the source of the ethylene oxide in your products?

We have identified the presence of ethylene oxide in sesame seeds sourced from India by a supplier manufacturing our foodspring PROTEIN BREAD and VEGAN PROTEIN BREAD.

What is your advice to consumers who are concerned about their health after consuming the affected products?

We ask consumers who have bought VEGAN PROTEIN BREAD with a best before date between February 2020 and September 2021 and PROTEIN BREAD with a best before date between December 2020 and September 2021, to not consume them. Instead, we ask consumers to return these affected products at the point of sale. We are offering a full refund to all affected consumers.

We have no evidence of any cases of illness reported related to this issue. Ethylene oxide is not an acute health hazard and can be potentially harmful if ingested continually or in large quantities over time.

Are any other products, other than the ones you have mentioned, at risk because of cross contamination?

No other foodspring products are affected.

Has this been discussed with the RASFF and relevant Food Safety authorities?

We are working with relevant food safety authorities and our distribution partners to ensure consumers are aware and return the impacted products.

We have notified the regulatory authorities and issued a press release to this effect.
